Why Lattice has Hack Weeks

At Lattice, we’re all about making work meaningful. One way we do this is through Hack Week—a time when Engineering, Product, and Design (EPD) teams break out of their usual routines to experiment, collaborate, and dream big. Learn how we we make them great below.

At Lattice, we’re all about making work meaningful. One way we do this is through Hack Week—a time when Engineering, Product, and Design (EPD) teams break out of their usual routines to experiment, collaborate, and dream big. It’s a week dedicated to building, tinkering, and pushing boundaries, all in the name of improving our employee and customer experience. For us, Hack Week isn’t just about hitting a roadmap milestone—it’s about sparking fresh ideas and growing our people-first culture.

What made this year’s Hack Week unique

Our 2024 Hack Week, held remotely in November, carried the theme “For the Love of Humans.” We wanted everyone to focus on solutions that celebrate the human side of work. We opened participation beyond EPD, inviting anyone who wanted in. The result? A richer exchange of ideas and an even deeper commitment to making work better for everyone.

Key highlights included:

  • Remote Collaboration: Despite being a remote event, the week was filled with vibrant collaboration across Slack, Loom, and virtual office hours.
  • Expanded Participation: Open to all EPD members and beyond, Hack Week welcomed diverse perspectives, fostering richer innovation.
  • A Human-Centric Lens: Every project was encouraged to reflect the humanity at the heart of Lattice’s mission.

The Categories

We encouraged folks to do whatever they wanted but we also had prizes for some categories that fit under the “For the Love of Humans” umbrella:

  • Excellence in Craft: Quality improvements that make using Lattice feel smoother and more satisfying.
  • Humans-Centered Impact: Efforts that boost diversity, equity, inclusion, sustainability—and the overall human experience at work.
  • #BetterTogether Award: Tools that bring Lattice’s Talent and HRIS platforms closer, streamlining how people work.
  • AI Productivity: Experiments that leverage AI to amp up productivity, collaboration, and creativity.
  • Shipmates Choice: A people’s choice award decided by Latticians during Demo Day.

Projects and Takeaways

Hack Week 2024 featured an impressive 15 projects showcasing a wide range of innovative ideas. Highlights included:

  • AI-Powered Tools: The “AI LatticeLibs Generator” and “AI-Generated Workflows” hinted at a future with smarter, more efficient systems.
  • Employee Experience Enhancements: “Employee Journey” and “Mentorship within Talent Suite” showed us new ways to support growth, connection, and engagement.
  • Tech Innovations: Projects like “Fearless Environment Variables” and “Modernizing Core Services” focused on strengthening our technical foundation.
  • Creative Features: “Mobile Calendar & Animations” proved that function can be fun, too.

Celebrating our Culture

Hack Week 2024 reminded me why I love being at Lattice. It’s a chance to see everyone rally around a single idea: making work more human. Each project reflected the unique perspectives and talents of everyone at Lattice, coming together to create a powerful collective whole. As we wrapped up another successful Hack Week, I’m grateful for the people behind the projects. Here’s to more creativity, more collaboration, and more ways to make work meaningful—together.
